Bike Wise - getting more kiwis on bikes, more often

Cheeky Rooster is contracted to deliver the day-to-day function of the Bike Wise behaviour change programme, which encourages New Zealanders to take up cycling and enjoy its many benefits.

Ohope Express

Stop aquatic weeds - the Simple Solution

Having competed in the event twice before, there was a sense of looking at the event from the inside when the Cheeky Rooster team delivered communications and operational management to the Tarawera Ultra Marathon in 2013 and 2014.

The Odyssey

Whakatane and Taupō District Councils

The Odyssey is an epic three-day fully supported mountain bike journey between Taupō and Whakatāne.  Scoping the course, establishing relationships with landowners and delivering operational support to the event were incredibly good fun and place this event up amongst our favourites.

Monty's Revenge

Eastern Bay of Plenty Triathlon and Multisport Club

From ‘brain child’ to reality, Mike van der Boom brought this multisport and duathlon event to life, and delivered marketing and operational management services for many years.  More than a decade on, this event still attracts hundreds of locals and out of towners and raises significant funds for the Club.

On contract to Media Unlimited, Cheeky Rooster marketed and managed the Ōhope event in the 2009 New Zealand Sun Latte Women’s Triathlon Series.

24 Hour and Daylight Express 6-hour adventure races

Eastern Bay of Plenty Triathlon and Multisport Club

For most ‘weekend warriors’, 24 hour adventure racing is not achievable. Cheeky Rooster was employed to develop an innovative and achievable event for the ‘mere mortals’ amongst us. The first Daylight Express 6 hour adventure race in 2009 attracted more entrants than any other Eastern Bay multisport event.  The Daylight Express received rave reviews and spurred creation of several other 6 hour adventure races.

Eastland Generation - Te Ahi o Maui Geothermal Project

Cheeky Rooster delivered a communications and public relations strategy to support the resource consenting process for the Te Ahi o Maui geothermal project.  Cheeky Rooster researched and developed a communications strategy for the project and implemented many of the tactics, such as the fact sheet series, media promotions, website text and project newsletters.

Marketing Opus to the clean energy sector

Cheeky Rooster researched and designed this three-year strategy and implementation plan to promote Opus’ sustainable energy related staff and services to the renewable energy sector. Strategy development included facilitated staff workshops and a review of stakeholder research.  The Strategy delivered easy to follow action plans, with clear rationale, for each of the three years.

Energy Trust communications strategy

Eastern Bay Energy Trust

In 2008, The Eastern Bay Energy Trust responded to a changing market place with a new business plan.  Cheeky Rooster worked alongside trust staff to research and develop a communications strategy that would support the outcomes of the new business plan.

Developing science excellence

Eastbay REAP

In redesigning how science excellence support is delivered in Eastern Bay schools, Eastbay REAP sought input from teachers and stakeholders.  Cheeky Rooster worked with Eastbay REAP to design and facilitate a stakeholder engagement workshop and action planning.

Supporting Whakatane community action

Whakatane District Council

Cheeky Rooster facilitated a multi-stakeholder community day focused on increasing opportunities for safe cycling in Whakatāne.  Cheeky Rooster developed an action plan from the workshops for the community groups to implement. The two projects planned at these workshops are underway and remain community led.

Treaty of Waitangi action plans

Department of Conservation

In the post Treaty of Waitangi settlement environment, collaborative action planning for the co-management of Department of Conservation lands is essential. Cheeky Rooster created action plans for the Departments activities with Ngāti Whare and Ngāti Manawa.

Guidelines for engaging with iwi

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

Cheeky Rooster’s stakeholder participation training and experience were added to the expertise of the Regional Council’s Māori Policy team to create an iwi engagement guide for Council’s staff and councillors.  Other Councils and organisations have also used the guide for staff training.

Ohiwa Harbour website

With more than 1700 pages on the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s website, it is hard to ‘get noticed’, but Cheeky Rooster’s new Ōhiwa Harbour web pages are standing out from the crowd. Stunning photography and carefully crafted text tell the stories of the community and many organisations working together to care for the Ōhiwa Harbour.

Farm field day event management

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

This farm field day, organised and promoted by Cheeky Rooster and Dairy NZ, attracted 70 farmers interested in restoring wetlands and harbour margins.

'Rural champions' media campaign

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

This proactive and positive media campaign about members of the eastern Bay of Plenty farming community achieved regional and national promotion in both print and online media.  The campaign showcased the ethos and farming practices of several ‘everyday farmers’, who are committed to caring for the environment while running successful farming ventures.

Publication development

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

Cheeky Rooster has developed many publications, including fact sheets, reports, newsletters and web copy, for the Sustainable Land Management arm of the Regional Council.  Development included research and creation of content, graphics and layout, and management of online and print publication.

Ohiwa Harbour Strategy Coordination Group

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

Cheeky Rooster facilitated development of a three-year communications strategy for the Ōhiwa Harbour Strategy Coordination Group and currently delivers communications on the Group’s behalf.

Review of internal and external communications

Opotiki Pack House and Cool Store (OPAC)

In 2011, Cheeky Rooster worked with OPAC’s permanent staff to complete a strategic review of internal communications.  The process included facilitated staff workshops, staff-led problem solving and collaborative action planning.

In 2013, Cheeky Rooster completed a review of OPAC’s externally focused communications and developed a three-year strategic plan.

Website development

Eastbay REAP

As more and more of Eastbay REAP’s ‘clients’ turn to the internet to find information, they will be pleased to find it on this new website.  The collaborative efforts of Eastbay REAP staff, Cheeky Rooster and MOCA web creations deliver a dynamic user experience and easy to read content where English and te reo Māori are interwoven.
